Deep Diver
SKU DDC001
There's a version of every reef most divers never see. It starts below 18 metres.
Light changes first. Colours drop out one by one the deeper you go, reds vanishing before you've even noticed, until your torch becomes less a convenience and more the reason you can see anything at all. Then the marine life changes too, the bigger, stranger, more skittish species that don't bother coming shallow. Deep diving isn't a different sport. It's the same one, with the volume turned up.
The PADI Deep Diver course takes you past the 18-metre limit of Open Water and the 30-metre limit of Advanced Open Water, down to the maximum recreational depth of 40 metres. All scuba equipment is included for the duration of the course, so there's nothing to source or hire beforehand, you arrive ready to dive deep. What you're really being taught here isn't just how to get deep, it's how to manage everything that changes once you're there: gas consumption, narcosis, decompression limits, and the judgement to know when a dive plan needs to change.
This is a course built on respect for depth rather than bravado about it. Done properly, deep diving is safe, controlled, and genuinely one of the more rewarding places diving can take you.
Where Deep Diver Takes You
Once certified, you're qualified to dive to the maximum recreational depth of 40 metres, opening up wrecks, walls, and reef systems that sit well beyond what an Advanced Open Water certification alone allows. It's the kind of certification that changes which dive trips and liveaboards are actually available to you.
Deep Diver is also one of the five specialty certifications that count toward PADI Master Scuba Diver, and pairs naturally with Enriched Air Diver, since managing gas efficiently becomes considerably more important the deeper you go.

What This Course Entails
Prerequisites
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Advanced Open Water before doing Deep Diver?
You need at least PADI Adventure Diver, which includes the deep-relevant Adventure Dive from Advanced Open Water, or a full Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Either satisfies the prerequisite.
What depth am I qualified to dive to after Deep Diver?
PADI Deep Diver qualifies you to dive to the maximum recreational depth of 40 metres, well beyond the 30-metre limit of Advanced Open Water alone.
What is narcosis, and will this course teach me to manage it?
Nitrogen narcosis is a temporary, depth-related effect on judgement and coordination that becomes more noticeable the deeper you go. This course teaches you to recognise the early signs in yourself and your buddy, and how to respond appropriately.
How many dives does the Deep Diver course include?
Four open water dives with your instructor, each progressively deeper, building toward the full 40-metre recreational limit by your final dive.
Does Deep Diver count toward Master Scuba Diver?
Yes. It's one of five specialty certifications required for the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, the highest non-professional classification in recreational diving.
Are air fills included in the course price?
No, and that is deliberate. Air is charged as you use it, per fill, and invoiced to you after your session. Every diver breathes differently, and building a worst-case air allowance into every course fee would mean the lightest breathers subsidising the heaviest, so instead you pay for the air you actually use and the course price stays lower for everyone. We confirm the current fill rate with you when we book your dates, and you are welcome to ask us for it at any point before that. Dive site entrance fees are also paid separately, at the site on the day.
