Silicone Grease

Description

An o-ring fitted dry drags on assembly, nicks against the edge of a groove and then fails at pressure, which is how a small maintenance job becomes a free-flow on a boat. Silicone grease prevents that: a thin film lets the o-ring seat properly and seals it against water, and it is the routine step behind every regulator service, tank valve change and torch o-ring inspection. It is also what keeps a dive light watertight, since a dry o-ring on a torch head is the most common cause of a flooded light. Sixty grams is a large quantity for personal use and will last years, which is the point of buying it once.
