Weight 1kg

Description

Over-weighting is the most common cause of poor buoyancy control and it feeds itself: extra lead has to be offset with air in the buoyancy compensator, that air expands and contracts on every depth change, and the diver spends the dive correcting a problem they created on the surface. Two kilograms too heavy is enough to make a safety stop hard to hold and to raise gas consumption noticeably over an hour. One kilogram is the step size that matters at the end of a weight check, when a diver is close to correct and adjusting rather than guessing. This is a lead block for a weight belt or most integrated weight pockets. Check weighting at the end of a dive rather than the start, on a near-empty cylinder, floating at eye level with an empty BCD and a normal breath held. The lead is coated and should stay that way, since a chipped block leaves oxide on hands and in a car boot. It suits a diver fine-tuning their weighting.

Features

• 1 kg coated lead block weight
• The standard step size for fine-tuning weighting
• Fits a standard weight belt and most integrated pockets
• Check weighting at the end of a dive, near-empty cylinder
• Keep the coating intact; wash hands after bare lead
• Half-kilogram slugs give finer adjustment
