CREST in South Africa
CREST is a Taiwanese dive equipment brand. It says it was founded in Taiwan in 2017 and builds its dive computers on expertise in decompression theory, aiming for equipment that's intuitive to use. The brand makes other computers and dive gear too; we list the CR-5L and two accessories for the CR-5 family.
The CR-5L dive computer
The CR-5L Dive Computer is a 75 g watch with a 3.1 cm colour screen that stays readable on a bright boat deck. It runs scuba, freediving, gauge and planning modes, and a technical mode for nitrox from 21 to 99%, multi-gas and trimix. GPS, an electronic compass and a navigation mode help you find your way back to an entry point, and more than 9,000 dive sites are stored on the watch. It suits a holiday diver who wants one watch for the week, a freediver logging depth sessions, or a diver taking a first step into decompression gases. Compare it with other wrist computers.
Charger and strap
The CR-5 Charger is CREST's own charging clip on a 50 cm USB cable, and it fits the CR-5 and CR-5L but not the CR-4. A spare in the travel bag means the computer can be charged on the boat while the original stays at home. The CR-5 Zulu Strap is a woven nylon strap in bright orange, made for the CR-5 and fitting the CR-5L. It threads under the watch body as well as buckling, so it's harder to lose, and it's lighter on the wrist all day.
