HEAD in South Africa
HEAD started with skis: Howard Head incorporated HEAD Ski Company in 1950, and the company, now HEAD Sport in Kennelbach, Austria, went on to tennis racquets and other sports. Its swimming range is what we carry: goggles for training and racing, a training fin, a nose clip and pool deck footwear. It suits squad swimmers, triathletes, and anyone building swim fitness before a dive course.
Start with your face size
The first question is width. Several HEAD goggles come in a Mid version for narrower adult and teenage faces, where a full-size frame leaves a gap at the outer corner of the eye. If adult goggles leak at the edges, start there. The Tiger Mid LSR keeps the curved conical lens of the Tiger range, with liquid silicone where it touches the face. The Superflex Mid uses a soft TPR frame for comfort through a long lesson, with anti-fog and UV treated lenses.
Clear or mirrored
Clear lenses suit indoor pools and grey days; mirrored lenses cut glare outdoors and on sea swims. The Tiger Race Mid is the clear narrow-face racing option. For bright water, the Tiger Mid Mirrored and the Tiger Mid Race Mirrored do the same job on a narrow face, the Race version with finer strap tuning and a split strap.
Racing goggles
For full-size faces, the Tiger LSR+ Mirrored uses two silicones, a soft one for the seal and a firmer one where the buckles pull, so strap tension doesn't deform the frame. The Tiger Race LSR+ Mirrored is built for a stable fit at race pace, from the dive start through every turn. The Stealth LSR Mirrored is a low-profile racing goggle with a liquid silicone gasket and UV and anti-fog treated lenses. HEAD uses liquid silicone because it stays flexible in the cold, stands up to cleaning agents and is hypoallergenic.
Everyday and family swimming
The Cyclone is a one-piece soft frame with curved lenses for wide peripheral vision and Fogbuster anti-fog lenses. There's no nose bridge to set, so it goes on quickly at the pool or the beach.
Fins, nose clip and footwear
The Energy Swim Fins are a polypropylene training fin with a closed foot pocket for kick sets; this pair is EU 34/35. The Shape Nose Clip keeps water out on turns and backstroke and comes with a storage box. For the pool deck and the walk to the beach, there are the Rebel Flip Flops and the Rebel Lady Slippers.
