Rule in South Africa

Rule is part of Xylem, which says the brand has been making marine pumps since 1965 and built its name on submersible bilge pumps. Our range covers bilge pumps, portable multi-use pumps and engine bay blowers. Every pump below is listed by its flow, and the right one depends on your boat's size, its voltage and how far the water has to be lifted to the outlet.

Choosing a bilge pump by size

For ski boats and small craft, the light DA pumps draw little current. The 24DA 360 moves 23 litres per minute, the 25DA 500 31, and the 20DA 800 50, with a 24 V version too. These flows are without the check valve, which is supplied. The 20A 1000 moves 63 litres per minute, weighs 0.43 kg and has 36 mounting variations for awkward bilges, and the 27DA 1100 moves 69.

Mid-sized yachts and motor cruisers step up to the 02 1500 at 95 litres per minute or the 10 2000 at 120. For larger boats, the 14A 3700 moves 233 litres per minute on 12 V, and the 16A 3700 gives 220 on 24 V, both through 38 mm hose with a maximum recommended discharge head of 4 m. Check the maximum discharge head on each product page against the height from your bilge to the outlet, and the hose bore against your existing plumbing.

Tight bilges and automatic pumping

The LoPro is a low-profile pump for shallow bilges, moving 56 litres per minute and mounting horizontally or vertically, with discharge ports for 19, 25 or 28 mm hose. Most Rule pumps need a separate float switch for automatic operation; the brand makes those, and we don't list them. The LoPro Auto Sense has water sensing built in, with high water, low water and full electronic modes, the last of which checks for water every 2.5 minutes.

Portable pumps

The iL200 Plus and iL280 Plus work dropped into a tank or connected in a hose line, for diesel transfer without spills, water transfer, a deck shower or a rinse down. They handle diesel, fresh water and salt water, but never petrol. The iL200 Plus moves 12.7 litres per minute and also suits bait tank aeration. The iL280 Plus kit moves 18 litres per minute and comes with a 4 m cable and battery clips, so it's ready to use. Both are for intermittent light duty.

In-line blowers

The In-Line Blower pushes onto 75 mm or 100 mm ducting, mounts in any position on a flat surface and draws little current. The 75 mm size moves 3.8 cubic metres of air per minute and the 100 mm size 6.7. It's offered in 24 V as well.
