U.S. Divers in South Africa
U.S. Divers says its story starts in 1950, when René Bussoz began selling Aqua Lung equipment in Los Angeles, and in 1952 he renamed the business U.S. Divers Company. Today the brand makes snorkelling and swim gear. What we carry is four snorkelling sets, two for adults and two for children.
Mask and snorkel or the full set?
A combo is a mask and snorkel. A set adds fins and a bag. If you're snorkelling off a beach where you can stand, a combo is enough. For reef snorkelling or a holiday with boat trips, fins make the difference.
For adults
The Tiki Snorkelling Combo is the entry-level option: a two window mask with polycarbonate lenses and anti-fog in the lens, and an open barrel snorkel. An open barrel has no splash guard, so it's for calm water. The Cozumel TX II Snorkelling Set steps up with an Island Dry snorkel that seals when you duck dive, a purge valve, Proflex FX open heel fins and a gear bag. Choose it if you'll be diving down for a closer look. See snorkelling combos.
For children
The Tiki Junior is recommended from age 6. The Tiki Junior Snorkelling Combo pairs a single window mask with a simple open barrel snorkel, which is easy for small lungs to clear in a rock pool or the shallows. The Dorado II Junior Snorkelling Set adds a splash guard snorkel with a purge valve and adjustable open heel fins that leave room as feet grow, so you're not buying again next summer. See kids snorkelling sets and junior and kids snorkelling.
Polycarbonate lenses are tough and suit holiday use; if you plan to learn to scuba dive, you'll want a tempered glass mask later.
Questions we get asked
Which U.S. Divers set is right for a beginner?

What age are the U.S. Divers junior sets for?
The Tiki Junior combo is recommended from age 6. The Dorado II Junior set is made for children, with fins that adjust as feet grow.
What does a dry snorkel do?
The Island Dry snorkel in the Cozumel TX II set seals when it goes under, so a duck dive doesn't flood the tube, and a purge valve clears any water that gets in.
