Faber 12L Cylinder 232 Bar

Description

An aluminium cylinder goes buoyant as it empties and wants to lift a diver's shoulders at the safety stop, which is exactly the wrong moment for it. Steel stays negative all the way down, and that is the practical reason to choose this over an aluminium equivalent rather than anything on the spec sheet. It is the standard recreational size and the one most South African dive centres fill by default, holding 2784 litres of free air at working pressure. Faber draw it from high quality steel plate so the body carries no weld, with wall thickness set to give the lightest cylinder that meets the rating. Steel also occupies less volume than aluminium for the same water capacity, so it sits shorter and slimmer on the back for the same gas, and it is free of the sustained load cracking found in some AA6351 and AA6082 aluminium cylinders. Keep the visual inspection current. It suits a recreational diver wanting one everyday cylinder.
