YS is the mounting standard Sea and Sea introduced and much of the underwater photography world adopted, so a great deal of equipment expects a YS fitting rather than a ball. This arm ends in one, with a hot shoe fitting at the other end that clamps into the shoe on top of a compact housing or an action camera. Six inches of flexible arm sits between them, bending and holding rather than pivoting at fixed joints, which means the light is aimed by hand and stays put with no clamp to loosen and retighten mid-dive. The whole point is that a light can be added to a camera that was never designed to carry one, without a tray, a rail or a rebuild. A version ending in a one inch ball covers ball-based rigs. It suits a photographer mounting a light on YS fittings from a hot shoe.
