7mm Hood

Description

Divers lose a disproportionate share of body heat through the head, so moving from 5mm to 7mm at the hood changes a cold dive more than the same change made anywhere else. This is the thickest in the standard range, covering skull, ears and neck in stretch neoprene on a deliberately minimalist cut. There is no excess material anywhere, because a hood that bags at the neck holds a reservoir of cold water against the throat for the whole dive. Perforations at the crown let trapped air escape on the way down, so the hood neither balloons nor lifts clear of the head. A short collar means it can be tucked beneath a wetsuit neck or worn over a drysuit collar, whichever the suit calls for. Sizing spans X Small through 2X Large, black throughout. The 3mm and 5mm hoods cover warmer water at less cost in hearing and head movement, and the coldwater version is the one shaped for a drysuit warmneck. It suits a diver in cold water.
