Description

Infrared at 940 nanometres is invisible to the human eye and to most marine life, which is exactly the point: a camera with an infrared-sensitive sensor sees a lit scene while the animals in it behave as though the light were not there. That makes this the tool for filming nocturnal behaviour that white light interrupts the moment it is switched on. The beam is 10 degrees, concentrating the output where the lens is pointed rather than spreading it, with four levels running 2 hours at full, then 4, 8 and 20 hours, from a rechargeable 18650 cell. It weighs 168 grams with the cell fitted and sits 76 grams negative, tested to 100 metres. It produces no visible light, so a separate torch is still needed for navigation. It suits a researcher or wildlife videographer filming undisturbed behaviour.
