AWARE Coral Reef Conservation
SKU ACR001
You don't need to be a diver to take this one. You just need to care about reefs.
Coral reefs support roughly a quarter of all marine species on a fraction of a percent of the ocean floor, and they're in serious trouble. Bleaching, acidification, sedimentation and destructive fishing are all doing measurable damage, and most people, divers very much included, know the headline without knowing the mechanism.
The PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course covers the mechanism. How a reef actually functions, what the relationship between coral and its algae depends on, why a change of a couple of degrees matters so much, and what genuinely helps as distinct from what merely feels like helping.
There are no prerequisites, no age restrictions, and no water sessions. This is a non-diving certification, which means a non-diving partner, a child, or anyone simply curious about the ocean can take it alongside you.
Why This One Is Worth Your Time
It's the most accessible course we offer and, dive for dive, one of the more useful. Divers who understand reef ecology handle themselves differently around coral, and the buoyancy discipline that follows from genuinely understanding what a careless fin kick does to a coral head is worth rather more than being told not to touch.
If you're a certified diver it counts toward your Master Scuba Diver rating, and it pairs naturally with Underwater Naturalist, Fish Identification and Dive Against Debris.
No diving required, and no experience needed. Book Coral Reef Conservation below, or get in touch with our team if you'd like to know more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a diver to take this course?
No. There are no certification prerequisites, no age restrictions and no water sessions. This is a non-diving certification, so a non-diving partner, a child, or anyone simply curious about the ocean can take it alongside you.
Can my children do this course?
Yes. There is no minimum age at all and no certification prerequisite, which makes it one of the few PADI courses a whole family can genuinely sit through together, divers and non-divers alike.
Is this just an awareness talk?
No, and that's rather the point. It covers the actual mechanism: how reefs form, the symbiotic relationship between coral polyps and the algae living inside them, and why a shift of a couple of degrees breaks it. Understanding why bleaching happens is considerably more useful than being told that it does.
How long does the Coral Reef Conservation course take?
About two hours. It's knowledge development only, with no water sessions at any point, so it can be done in an evening or slotted alongside another course you're already booked on.
Does it count toward Master Scuba Diver?
Yes, if you're a certified diver it counts as one of the five specialities toward the Master Scuba Diver rating. It's the most accessible way to add a speciality to your record, and it pairs naturally with Underwater Naturalist, Fish Identification and Dive Against Debris.
