Backscatter M52 Wide Angle Air Lens

Description

Water and a flat port narrow a compact camera's view, and the Backscatter M52 Wide Angle Air Lens wins that lost width back for Olympus TG cameras. It is an air lens: a sealed pocket of air behind the dome cancels the refraction at the port, restoring the camera's topside framing at 81 degrees with sharp corners and no vignetting at 24 mm. On a reef dive that means divers and coral heads fit the frame without backing away and losing colour to the extra water. Because the lens can stay on, a TG-5, TG-6 or TG-7 can still use microscope mode for macro through it, so one dive can cover a nudibranch and the wall it lives on. The lens screws onto the M52 thread of Olympus PT-056, PT-058 and PT-059 housings, weighs 160 g on land and only 20 g in water, and is rated to 50 m. It suits a TG shooter who wants one lens for wide and macro without swapping mid-dive.
