CALYPSO + WAVE SET

This Aqua Lung set pairs the Calypso Classic and the Calypso / Titan Octopus with the entry-level Wave jacket in black and lime, and adds the Combo 2K console. The Calypso Classic is a piston-driven regulator built around simplicity, aimed at dive centres and at divers who service their own kit.

A large-diameter high-flow piston steadies medium pressure as the cylinder empties rather than letting supply taper off. The DIN 232 bar first stage is built from few components, which shortens a service, and a second filter is replaceable without dismantling it. The octopus is rated at 1.0 j/L, runs a 39 inch yellow hose and weighs 550 g complete. The Wave uses the same ResisteK outer as the Pro HD above it, and carries two dump valves: a right shoulder pull dump with a yellow bob and a lower rear dump for horizontal trim. The Combo 2K console adds a 50 mm pressure gauge and an in-line depth gauge on one 80 cm hose, weighing 389 g.

The result is a set a dive centre maintains on its own bench and a diver can afford to own outright, on a buoyancy compensator sized to the diver rather than to shop stock.

Sizing follows the Wave, eight sizes from 3XS to XL; the rest is one size. Cylinder, computer, weights and exposure protection are separate. At R21,184 the set saves R5,096 on the parts bought singly.
