Y-1 Barrier Filter for Camera Lenses

Description

Fluorescence diving fails without a barrier filter, and the reason is a matter of proportion. Blue excitation light hitting a reef mostly reflects straight back, and only a small fraction is absorbed and re-emitted as the glowing colours the whole exercise is about. Without something to block the reflected blue, that fraction is swamped and the camera records a blue scene. The Y-1 blocks it, leaving only the fluorescence. This is the version that threads onto a camera lens or port rather than sitting in a mask, in 58, 62, 67 and 77 millimetre sizes to match standard filter threads, so the camera sees what the diver sees. A fluorodiving mask and a yellow plate cover the viewing side of the same problem. That answers a fluorescence night dive, a coral survey and reef research. It suits a photographer shooting fluorescence under a blue light.
