Coil Lanyard

Description

Gear is usually either clipped away and unusable or dangling and dragging. A coil is what avoids both, because straight cord of the same working length hangs as a loop and finds something to catch on, where a coil takes up its own slack and sits against the harness. Clipped to a shoulder D-ring, an item on one is picked up, used and released without anything being unclipped, which is the whole point on a dive where a torch gets put down twenty times. Trailing equipment is the usual cause of both entanglement and reef damage, and neither is ever the diver's intention. It suits torches, cameras, slates and small accessories rather than anything heavy or expensive; a camera rig or a canister light wants a bolt snap on a short leash instead. Check the coil for cracking at the start of a season, since coiled cord perishes at the ends first. It suits a diver carrying small kit that gets used often.
