Description

The Descent G1 Solar answers the battery problem. Solar charging through the lens stretches smartwatch running time to around four months in good light, and dive mode still gives 25 hours, so the watch that logs your diving is not the one you find flat the night before a trip. It is the rugged, monochrome member of the Descent family: a 45.5 mm case rated to 100 metres behind a high-contrast two-window display that stays legible in hard sun on a boat deck and in green water on a local reef. Scuba, gauge, apnea, apnea hunt and closed-circuit rebreather modes cover recreational diving and freediving from the same watch, on air, nitrox and trimix to 100 percent oxygen. The Ocean Edition goes further, with the housing, bezel and buttons moulded from recycled ocean-bound plastic. It suits divers who want a hard-wearing computer with long battery life and who can do without a colour screen.
