Garmin Descent G1 Solar

Description

Charging a dive computer is the job that gets forgotten, and a flat battery on the morning of a dive is an expensive way to learn that. The G1 Solar answers it by charging through its own lens, which stretches smartwatch running time to around four months in good light and still leaves up to 25 hours of dive time. The monochrome display is deliberately plain, and that is what makes it readable in hard sunlight on a hardboat deck and in the low light inside a wreck. At 66 g it disappears under a wetsuit cuff for a fortnight of tropical diving, and the same watch tracks running and swimming between trips. The dive side is not a cut-down version: single and multi-gas scuba, trimix to 100 per cent oxygen, closed-circuit rebreather and apnea modes, with adjustable gradient factors on the decompression model. It suits a diver who wants one watch for diving and for daily wear, and who resents cables.
