Diving Compass with Bungee

Description

Navigation is the skill most divers name when asked what they want to improve, and the obstacle is usually an instrument that is awkward to reach rather than the technique itself. A bungee mount settles that end of the problem. The cord goes over a 5 mm glove in one movement, and it takes up slack as a wetsuit compresses at depth, where a buckled strap would work loose. The card is liquid damped, so it settles quickly enough for a bearing to be taken in the water instead of watched through a slow swing, and its luminescent numbering stays legible inside a wreck or on a late afternoon dive with no torch on it. It reads from the top face and through a side window, which allows a bearing to be taken with the arm held out rather than turned across the chest. It suits a shore entry, a wreck or a compass course.
