Description

Cold water washing repeatedly through an ear canal is what drives surfer's ear and most of the outer ear infections divers pick up on a trip. Slowing that flow without sealing the canal is the job here, and the vent through each plug is how it is done: pressure equalises freely while the body of the plug keeps the water moving slowly and the ear warmer. A solid plug does the opposite and traps an air pocket that cannot equalise, which is a direct route to a damaged ear drum on descent. They also take the edge off high-frequency noise, worth more on a boat than in the water, and a leash is included so one that works loose is not lost. Fit decides everything, and sizes run by ear canal diameter from 21 mm to 34 mm across six options. Get measured rather than guessing, and stop using them if equalisation gets harder.
