EXOTEC-S
The Apeks Exotec-S is the Exotec back-inflation buoyancy compensator in the alternative colourway. The construction and adjustment are the same: an adjustable backplate with three height positions, plus adjustable waist and shoulders, covering the size range in three sizes.
Lift is 170N (38 lb) in small and medium and 220N (49 lb) in large and extra large, with a dry weight around 4.2 to 4.4kg depending on size. SurLock integrated weight pockets take up to 4.5kg each, and non-releasable trim pockets hold a further 2.27kg per waistband pocket and 2.27kg per bladder trim pocket.
Distributing weight between ditchable pockets and fixed trim pockets is what makes a back-inflation unit sit level. Loading everything into the ditchable pockets and none into the trim pockets is the usual reason a diver ends up feet-down in one.
