Description

A dive watch that runs flat halfway through a liveaboard week is dead weight on the wrist. The Fenix 8 Solar charges from daylight through a Power Sapphire lens over a sunlight-visible memory-in-pixel display, stretching smartwatch battery to 28 days on the 47 mm and 48 days on the 51 mm with solar. Its dive mode covers single-gas scuba on air or nitrox up to 40% oxygen and apnea, both to 40 m, with Bühlmann ZHL-16c decompression and gradient factors. On a week of boat dives, the surface interval, no-fly time and tissue loading sit on a widget between dives. A freediver training on a line logs each descent in apnea mode. Off the water, the LED torch and preloaded maps carry it through a hike or a power cut. The memory-in-pixel screen trades resolution for battery, alarms underwater are vibration only and there is no gas switching. It suits a diver who travels far from a plug point and wants a screen that reads well in bright sun.
