Aqualung Hawkeye

Description

Most masks that leak on a beginner do so because the strap has been hauled tight to compensate for a skirt that never sealed in the first place. The Hawkeye works the other way round: a hypoallergenic silicone face skirt does the sealing, and an easy-adjust three-way buckle system lets the strap be set to hold the mask in place rather than to clamp it on. That is the difference between a comfortable hour in the water and a headache. The lenses are durable tempered glass rather than plastic, so they resist scratching from sand and shatter under pressure. That answers a family holiday over a reef, a first snorkelling mask for someone still deciding whether they like it, and a spare kept in a beach bag. It suits a snorkeller or a new diver who wants a mask that seals without being over-tightened.
