Helix

Description

A regulator that lives in a travel bag is judged on weight before anything else, and the Helix first stage is 475 g in DIN, roughly 270 g lighter than the Leg3nd above it in the range. The braided hose adds to that saving: it packs flatter, resists kinking, and does not spring back against the diver when the second stage is stowed. Work of breathing is 0.85 joules per litre, close to the top of the range and comfortably inside anything a recreational dive asks. Two high pressure and four medium pressure ports are arranged in a T so hoses leave the first stage where they are wanted rather than where they fit. The ComfoBite mouthpiece takes load off the jaw across a long dive. That answers a flight to a warm-water trip, a second regulator for a pony cylinder, and a first serious purchase after training. It suits a diver who values weight and packability.
