Kraken KR-S40 Underwater Strobe

Description

A compact camera's built-in flash sits right beside the lens, so it lights every particle in the water between camera and subject and flattens the colours. An external strobe on an arm moves the light off to the side, and the KR-S40 is Kraken's small one for that job. It gives 40 watt-seconds of manual power in five steps, recycles to full power in 1.5 seconds or less, and fires about 500 times on one USB-C rechargeable 21700 battery. A straight flash tube keeps it compact, and a 300 lumen spot focus light helps the camera lock on to small subjects. It triggers optically in S1, S2 or Multi slave mode with no TTL. It fits a compact camera shooting nudibranchs on a reef, a macro session on a night dive, and a travel rig where weight counts, at 200 g in water. It suits a photographer adding a first strobe to a compact or small mirrorless housing.
