Description
An SMB is only as good as the line that sends it up, and a reel that jams or spills line during a deployment turns a routine safety stop into a tangle. The Mares Compact Reel carries 30 m of line for deploying a surface marker buoy from depth or at the safety stop. The handle and grip fold away, so it stays compact in a BCD pocket or clipped to a D-ring, and a double carabiner connects it to the buoy and the harness. The design is exclusive to Mares. It works for a drift dive where the buoy goes up before the ascent, a shore dive in an area with boat traffic, and an SMB skills session on a course. It suits a recreational diver who wants a compact reel to pair with a marker buoy.
