MAZU TD01

The OrcaTorch Mazu TD01 is a dual-colour dive headlamp with white and red LEDs on a 180 degree adjustable bracket, so the beam can be aimed down at a reel or forward at a passage without moving the head. It is rated to 150 metres, which is unusual for a headlamp.

White gives 1200 lumens for 1 hour 45 minutes and 450 lumens for 3 hours 15, through a 17 degree beam reaching 183 metres at 8400 candela. Red gives 50 lumens for 2 hours 30 and 15 lumens for 8 hours 45, with a 25 lumen signal mode running 8 hours 50. A rotary switch changes modes, which works in thick gloves. The A6061-T6 body is Type III hard anodised, measures 97.8 millimetres long on a 32 millimetre tube, and weighs 136.2 grams without a cell.

The result is light on the head and both hands free. Red preserves night vision on a surface swim and lets a diver approach a subject that white light would scatter, and the bracket fits standard action-camera mounts, so the same lamp goes on a helmet or a wrist.

Supplied with a head strap, an 18650 3400 milliamp-hour micro-USB rechargeable cell, a charging cable, the bracket and three spare O-rings.
