Description

Silicone hardens and cracks with age whether or not the regulator is dived, and the failure it produces is a torn bite tab, which means a second stage leaving the mouth at the wrong moment. It is the cheapest part on a regulator and the one most likely to end a dive, which is easy to forget on kit that is otherwise serviced annually. This replacement is shaped to reduce jaw fatigue, and the bite tabs decide that: a mouthpiece gripped hard produces a sore jaw within an hour, and on a long dive that becomes a distraction rather than a discomfort, where a well-shaped one is carried in the mouth instead of held there. Any second stage on conventional bite tabs will take it, and swapping one over is a cable tie and five minutes at a bench. A used regulator is worth re-fitting before its first dive, and a trip is worth a spare. It suits a diver replacing a worn or hardened mouthpiece.
