Description

A backup light is useless if it cannot be powered, and on a remote trip a rechargeable cell with nowhere to charge is exactly that. The D580 takes a battery holder for three AAA alkalines as well as an 18650, so it can be brought back to life anywhere that sells batteries. Output is 530 lumens for 3 hours 30 on the 18650, or 480 lumens for 2 hours 50 on the AAAs, throwing 179 metres on land at 8000 candela, which is more than enough for a backup and adequate as a primary in clear water. There is no switch to knock: the head is turned to operate it, sealed by three O-rings, so it cannot come on unnoticed in a bag. It is 128.3 millimetres long at 123 grams without a cell, rated to 150 metres and a 1.5 metre drop. It suits a diver wanting a backup that runs on shop-bought batteries.
