Over-Pressure Release Valve

Description

A first stage that has no second stage to relieve pressure can let intermediate pressure creep up if the seat fails, and that is where an over-pressure release valve earns its place. This valve screws into any first stage standard 3/8 inch low-pressure port and opens when the intermediate pressure rises above 12 bar, with a tolerance of 0.5 bar either way. It is set at the factory to 12 bar, but that setting can change over time and with travel and shipping, so it is user adjustable with a 3 mm hex key, between a minimum of about 6 bar and a maximum of 16 bar. It is used mainly on argon and air drysuit inflation cylinders, which have no second stage, to protect the hose and the suit from excess pressure or uncontrolled inflation. It suits technical divers adding a safety back-up.
