Description

Screen size stops being cosmetic the moment a diver is reading a decompression schedule at 80 metres in cold water, and at 2.6 inches the Petrel 3 has the largest display Shearwater build. It runs a full colour AMOLED behind toughened glass on a 290 metre body. On a trimix decompression dive it holds five open and five closed circuit gases, switching between them on two buttons that work through thick gloves. On an expedition where mains power is a generator hour a day, a single AA runs it up to 100 hours on a Saft cell and a spare weighs nothing in a pocket. On a cold shore dive the vibration alerts carry through a hood where an audible alarm would not. VPM-B and DCIEM are available by unlock code for divers trained on those models. It suits a technical diver who wants the biggest readable screen and a battery that can be changed anywhere, and the Perdix 2 Ti is the same platform in a smaller body.
