Description

Line runs between two discs that stay still while the spool turns, so the body cannot rotate out of a gloved hand the way a plain spool does, and squeezing those discs applies a disc brake to the line. Tension then comes from finger pressure rather than from gripping the spool, which lets a diver watch a delayed SMB rise instead of watching the hand. On a shore entry in Cape water the same brake stops a loose spool dumping line into the kelp. Three line lengths are stocked, 50 ft (15 m), 100 ft (30 m) and 150 ft (45 m). The body is injection-moulded fibreglass-reinforced nylon with a stainless steel axle and screws, slotted for the line and shaped to clip off to a bolt snap, one of which is included. All three sizes come in black, and the Colour Kit swaps the discs for one of seven colours, which is how a 50 ft SMB spool is told from a 150 ft jump spool. It suits a diver shooting a delayed SMB.
