Aluminium Backplate

Description

Airline baggage limits and warm-water diving both favour a light plate, and aluminium is the usual answer. This Scubatech backplate weighs about 0.85 kg and has an oxidised finish in black, blue or red, which adds a splash of colour under a wing. For a diver flying to a tropical liveaboard, it keeps a backplate rig well inside the bag allowance. With an aluminium cylinder and a thin wetsuit, it avoids the extra ballast that a stainless plate would add for a diver who is already correctly weighted. The plate has slots for a continuous-webbing harness and single-cylinder bands, so it can be built up to suit the rig, with harness, wing and cylinder bands sold separately. It suits a travelling or warm-water diver setting up a light backplate and wing rig.
