Reef Hook

Description

Finning hard to stay in place on a current-swept reef burns gas and tires legs, and grabbing coral damages it. A reef hook solves both by catching on bare rock and letting the diver hang back on a line. This Scubatech reef hook has a metal hook on a yellow line with a bolt snap at the other end that clips to a BCD D-ring. On a drift dive where the guide stops the group at a point to watch the current, the hook goes into dead rock or rubble, and a little air in the BCD keeps the diver clear of the reef. On a deep wall with strong flow near the safety stop, it can anchor to a ledge while the group waits. It should only be placed on dead rock, never on living coral, and released before ascending. It suits a diver heading to current-swept sites on a boat trip.
