Stainless Steel Backplate 3 mm

Description

A stainless plate puts ballast right along the spine, where it helps trim, and lets a diver in a thick suit take some lead off the belt. This Scubatech backplate is cut from 3 mm stainless steel and weighs about 2.1 kg, so part of the diver's weighting moves onto the back instead of sitting on the hips. On cold inland dives in a drysuit, weight high on the back is something many divers use to fine-tune a horizontal position for a long swim along a wall. With a steel cylinder in warm water, it may be more weight than needed, and an aluminium plate is the lighter choice. The plate has slots for a continuous-webbing harness and single-cylinder bands, which are sold separately along with the wing. It suits a diver building a backplate and wing rig who wants extra weight on the back.
