Suunto D4f

Description

A scuba computer set to freedive mode still carries menus and alarms built around a cylinder, and the D4f leaves all of that out: it is a freediving computer and nothing else. It records present and maximum depth, dive time and surface interval for every breath-hold, samples at one, two or five seconds, and is rated to 100 metres. On a depth training session the five depth notifications step a freediver down the line without a glance at the display. On a spearfishing day the surface time notification marks when the recovery interval is up, and the dive time alarm caps each drop. In the pool the apnea timer with O2 and CO2 tables structures a static session. The case is 48.6 millimetres across and 86 grams, under a stainless steel bezel and mineral crystal lens, and it wears as an everyday watch. There are no scuba modes and no air integration. It suits a freediver or spearfisher who wants a dedicated computer rather than a scuba unit with a freedive setting.
