Description

The D5 was Suunto's answer to a simple objection: divers wanted a colour screen without carrying an instrument the size of a compass. It is 53 mm across and 90 g, with a memory-in-pixel colour display at 320 by 300 that stays readable in bright sun rather than washing out the way a backlit screen does. Air, nitrox, gauge and freedive modes cover most recreational diving, with up to three gases at oxygen from 21 to 99 per cent on the Fused RGBM 2 algorithm. Wireless air integration takes up to three Tank PODs, which is enough for a diver carrying a stage. The strap changes without tools, so the same computer moves from a silicone dive strap to something smarter in a minute, and a tilt-compensated digital compass removes one more instrument from the console. It suits a recreational diver who wants a colour screen and a watch worth wearing out.
