Tank Banger

Description

Its advantage over a shaker or a horn is where it lives. Stretched around the base of a cylinder, it never has to be found, unclipped or held, and the BCD stays uncluttered: pull the ball away from the tank, let it go, and the clank carries. Construction is corrosion-free plastic on surgical or elastic rubber tubing, so there is nothing to seize or rust. The band stretches over a range of cylinder sizes and can be set up for left or right handed use, and most versions also allow a lighter tap against the tank for a quieter call. Audible range varies with the model, the cylinder material and the water, so treat it as a buddy signal rather than a group one. It needs no maintenance beyond a rinse, though the rubber is the part that ages, so check it for perishing at the start of a season. It suits a diver who wants a signal without a hand leaving the job.
