Open SMB 18/122 cm

Description

The simplest buoy to deploy is one with nothing to fill but an open end, which is why many instructors start students on an open SMB. Tecline's 18/122 open buoy is an orange nylon tube 18 cm across and 122 cm long, filled from a second stage or with exhaled air through the open base. It has no valves to service and rolls small with a bungee for storage. On a training dive it teaches the basics of deploying a buoy on a spool. On a relaxed reef dive it marks the group's position at the safety stop. Because the base is open, the line has to be kept taut once it reaches the surface, or gas can spill and the buoy fall over. A loop at the base takes the spool's snap, and the spool is sold separately. It suits a new diver learning buoy skills or anyone wanting a light, simple marker.
