Standard Compass

Description

A compass that is slow to settle costs a diver the heading exactly when visibility drops and it is needed most. Termo Industria build this one around two magnets, so the card swings to north quickly, and fill the capsule with oil to damp it once it arrives. The 60 mm dial reads from the top when held flat and through a side window when the arm is raised to sight a bearing, and the card is luminous for night dives and silty water. Its bezel numbers are moulded right through the ring, so they cannot be rubbed away by years of kit bags. Two mounts are offered: an elastic bungee that tightens itself as a wetsuit compresses at depth, and a buckle wrist strap for a fixed fit over a thin suit. Navigation training dives, a shore entry with a reciprocal heading back to the exit, and a reef search in green water all rely on it. It suits a diver learning or practising underwater navigation.
