Description

Fifteen metres with no housing at all is the specification that decides who buys this camera. It goes snorkelling, into surf and onto a shallow reef straight out of the bag, and the optional PT-059 takes it to 45 when that is not enough. The rest of the body is built to the same brief: dustproof, freezeproof to minus 10 degrees Celsius, shockproof from 2.1 metres and crushproof to 100 kg. A 12 MP BSI CMOS sensor with the TruePic VIII processor handles low light, helped by an f/2.0 maximum aperture on the 4x optical zoom, 25 to 100 mm equivalent, reaching ISO 12,800. Four macro modes cover close-up work, a Field Sensor System logs location and environmental data, and Pro Capture buffers up to 70 frames from before the shutter press. Vertical video, interval shooting, exposure smoothing and USB-C arrived with this generation. It weighs 249 grams loaded. This is the red body. It suits a snorkeller or diver wanting a camera with no housing.
