Wrist Slate

Description

An instructor writing a correction to a student does not want to be hunting a D-ring first. Strapping the slate to the forearm keeps it in view for the whole dive with nothing to unclip, which is the argument for this over a clipped one. It takes a graphite pencil and cleans with an eraser, the combination that works wet: ink does not, and a marker pen smears the moment it goes in the water. Put it on the arm that is not carrying the computer and both stay readable without one covering the other. What it buys is communication past the hand signals, which cover gas, direction, depth and the standard problems and nothing beyond them. A buddy pair without a shared language get most of their briefing from it, as do instructors and divemasters. Fill the plan in on dry land rather than relying on memory, and tie a pencil to it, since the slate alone does nothing. It suits an instructor or a diver briefing underwater.
