Description

Plastic hardware on a harness has one predictable end: sunlight makes it brittle, and it snaps on the day it is loaded hardest. This buckle is stainless steel with no plating and no plastic, and its friction bar design has nothing spring-loaded inside to seize with salt. Tension is held by the webbing wrapping the bar rather than by a mechanism, which means it behaves the same on a cold morning as on a warm one and can still be released with a gloved hand. It takes 50 mm webbing, so it serves as the waist buckle on a backplate harness or as the buckle on a plain weight belt, and many divers standardise on it across both so there is only one part to carry as a spare. It suits a diver replacing plastic hardware, or building a harness meant to outlast it.
