Pelican in South Africa
Pelican began with diving. The company says its founder, Dave Parker, was obsessed with diving, and in 1976 he and his wife Arline started Pelican because the protection his scuba gear needed didn't exist. It's still based in Torrance, California, and makes protective cases, temperature controlled packaging and portable lighting. We carry the Vault cases, foam, travel packs and a cooler.
Vault hard cases
Every Vault case is moulded from high-impact polymer and rated crushproof, dustproof and weather resistant, with push-button latches that open with cold or wet hands and a purge valve that equalises pressure on a flight. Choose by the internal size of what you're protecting.
The V100 Vault Small Case (27.9 x 20.3 x 11.4 cm inside) takes a dive computer and spare straps, an action camera kit or a torch and charger. The V200 Vault Medium Case (35.6 x 25.4 x 14 cm) holds a compact camera and housing or a regulator second stage with accessories. The V300 Vault Large Case (40.6 x 27.9 x 16.5 cm) comes with padded dividers you can move around a camera body, lenses and torches.
For travel, the V525 Vault Rolling Case has wheels and a trolley handle and is sized to maximum airline carry-on dimensions, though check your airline's limits. The V600 Vault Large Equipment Case takes a full underwater camera system with arms and strobes. The V800 Vault Double Rifle Case is built for firearms, but its pluckable foam can be shaped around a speargun or a long camera rig.
Replacement foam
Foam wears out, or gets cut for kit you no longer own. The V200 Vault Replacement Foam Set and the matching V100 and V600 sets restore the interior. Lay the gear out, mark around it and cut, leaving at least 2.5 cm of foam between the gear and the case wall. All our Pelican cases are in hard cases and boxes.
Travel packs and a cooler
The Aegis packs combine a soft backpack with a moulded EVA front shell, Cordura fabric, a laptop sleeve and a passthrough for a roller bag handle. The Aegis 18L Travel Pack is the day size for a camera, dive computer and documents, and the Aegis 25L carries more. See other options in dive travel bags. For cold drinks on a boat, the 8QT Personal Cooler holds about 7.5 litres with a dry box in the lid and tie-down points for strapping it in.
Questions we get asked
Which Pelican case fits an underwater camera and housing?
A compact camera and housing fits the V200. A full system with arms and strobes needs the V600, or the V525 if you want wheels and a carry-on size.
Can I take a Pelican Vault case on a plane?
Yes. Vault cases have a purge valve that equalises pressure in flight, and the V525 is sized for maximum airline carry-on dimensions. Always check your airline's own size and weight limits.
How do I cut Pelican foam for my gear?
Lay the gear on the foam, outline it with tape or chalk and cut it out, leaving at least 2.5 cm of foam between the gear and the case wall. Pluck foam pulls out in cubes, so you can shape it by hand.
Are Pelican Vault cases waterproof?
Pelican rates Vault cases crushproof, dustproof and weather resistant, with an O-ring sealed lid. Treat them as protection from spray, rain and handling, not as submersible.
Does the Pelican cooler have a warranty?
Pelican gives the 8QT Personal Cooler a three-year warranty.
