Three dives, three directions, and no obligation to pick a favourite yet.
After Open Water, most divers know they want to do more and have no particular idea what. Wrecks sound good. So does night diving. Photography is tempting. Committing to a full specialty course before you've tried any of them is a slightly odd way to decide.
Adventure Diver solves that. You choose three Adventure Dives, each one the first dive of a full PADI specialty course, and try three genuinely different kinds of diving under instruction. It's the sampler, and it's a legitimate certification in its own right.
The choice is wide: wreck, night, drift, peak performance buoyancy, search and recovery, underwater photography, boat, enriched air and more. All scuba equipment is included for the duration of the course.
Where Adventure Diver Leads
Every Adventure Dive you complete credits toward the full specialty course, so if one of the three grabs you, you're already a dive into the qualification.
It's also two dives short of Advanced Open Water. Add two more, making sure Deep and Underwater Navigation are among your five, and you've earned the Advanced certification. Plenty of divers deliberately split it that way to spread the cost and the time.

What This Course Entails
Prerequisites
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Adventure Diver different from Advanced Open Water?
The number of dives. Adventure Diver is three Adventure Dives of your choosing plus the Thinking Like a Diver knowledge section. Advanced Open Water is five, and two of them are fixed: Deep and Underwater Navigation. Adventure Diver is the shorter, more flexible version of the same idea.
What are the prerequisites for Adventure Diver?
A PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification. Divers aged 10 and 11 can only earn the Junior Adventure Diver certification, and some individual Adventure Dives carry their own higher minimum age, so tell us which three you fancy and we'll confirm.
Which Adventure Dives can I choose from?
The first dive of most PADI specialty courses counts as an Adventure Dive, so the choice is wide: Wreck, Night, Drift, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Underwater Photography, Boat, Enriched Air and more. Each one also credits toward the full specialty if you go on to complete it.
How deep can I go?
Up to 30 metres for divers aged 15 and over, though the limit varies by Adventure Dive and junior divers have shallower limits. If you choose the Deep Adventure Dive, that's the one that takes you toward the deeper end.
Can I upgrade to Advanced Open Water afterwards?
Yes. Add two more Adventure Dives, making sure Deep and Underwater Navigation are among your five, complete the knowledge reviews, and you've earned Advanced Open Water. Plenty of divers do it exactly that way, spreading the cost and the time over two visits.
Are air fills included in the course price?
No, and that is deliberate. Air is charged as you use it, per fill, and invoiced to you after your session. Every diver breathes differently, and a nervous first-timer will get through considerably more air than someone on their fourth qualification dive. Building a worst-case air allowance into every course fee would mean the lightest breathers subsidising the heaviest, so instead you pay for the air you actually use and the course price stays lower for everyone. We confirm the current fill rate with you when we book your dates, and you are welcome to ask us for it at any point before that. Dive site entrance fees are also paid separately, at the site on the day. Everything else, including your PADI eLearning, your instruction and the use of all scuba equipment, is covered by your course fee.
