Description

The base of a cylinder is domed, which is what makes one unstable standing on its own and what takes the damage when it goes over. A boot slides on and turns that curve into a flat footprint spread across three or four feet, keeping the steel clear of the ground. The gaps between those feet are the detail that matters: water drains out rather than sitting between boot and cylinder, and trapped water is where corrosion starts under a boot that fits too well. A cylinder that falls over on a moving deck is a hazard to feet and to everything else on the deck, so standing upright is worth more than it sounds. This one is sized for a 10 litre. Pull it off periodically, rinse underneath and let both dry, because trapped salt is the usual cause of corrosion at a base. The cylinder nets protect the body rather than the base.
