Bubblemaker
SKU BUB001
Eight years old is old enough to breathe underwater. It's a very good day out.
There's a particular expression children get about ten seconds after their first breath underwater. Wide eyes, a slightly delayed grin, and then an urgent need to tell you about it the moment they surface. Bubblemaker exists to produce that expression.
It's a short pool experience for children aged eight and up. They're fitted with proper scuba equipment, sized for them, and taken to a maximum of two metres in a heated indoor pool in Fourways with an instructor in the water alongside them the entire time. No theory, no exams, no pressure of any kind.
The shallow depth is deliberate. At two metres a child can stand up and be comfortable in seconds if anything feels strange, which is exactly the reassurance an eight-year-old needs to relax enough to enjoy it. All equipment is included.
What Your Child Gets Out Of It
Bubblemaker isn't a certification, and it doesn't pretend to be. What they come away with is a Bubblemaker certificate and card, a logbook entry, and an emblem, which at that age is very much the point.
If they take to it, PADI Seal Team is the natural next step, running through a series of AquaMissions in the pool. And when they turn 10, Junior Open Water Diver becomes available. Plenty of divers we've certified started exactly here.

Frequently Asked Questions
How old does my child need to be?
Eight. That's the minimum age PADI sets for Bubblemaker, and it's a genuine minimum rather than a guideline. If your child is younger, the PADI Seal Team programme also starts at eight, so there's nothing scuba-based available before then.
Does my child need to be a strong swimmer?
No. They need to be comfortable in water and happy getting their face wet, but there's no swim test and no distance to cover. The whole session happens in two metres of heated pool with an instructor within arm's reach.
How deep do they actually go?
A maximum of two metres, in a heated indoor pool in Fourways, with an instructor in the water alongside them the whole time. It's deliberately shallow. The point is the sensation of breathing underwater, not depth.
Is Bubblemaker a certification?
No, it's an experience rather than a course. Your child gets a Bubblemaker certificate and card, a logbook entry and an emblem, which at eight years old is frankly the best part. If they love it, PADI Seal Team is the natural next step.
Can I watch?
Please do. Parents are very welcome at the poolside, and most children are noticeably keener to show off a new skill than to be left to it. Bring a camera, because the face they make after the first breath underwater is worth having.
