Description

Every electronic instrument on a dive shares one failure mode, which is the battery, and a digital compass is no exception. The SK-8 is analogue, so it works on a dive where a computer has flooded, on a rental set with no electronics at all, and on a technical dive where a mechanical backup is part of the plan rather than an afterthought. It comes with a choice of mount, bungee or strap, and both take the same capsule, so the mount can be changed later without buying another compass. The bungee version holds it flat against the forearm over any thickness of exposure suit, which is what keeps the card level enough to read. Suunto make it in bungee and strap mount versions, and the bare capsule is stocked separately as a replacement. It suits a diver who wants navigation that does not depend on a charge.
