Description

Blisters on the instep and the back of the heel are the standard result of a hard day in full-foot fins, and they end a holiday faster than bad weather. A thin neoprene sock puts a layer between the foot and the fin pocket without taking up the space a boot would, so the fin still fits. Three millimetres is enough to stop the rubbing and to take the edge off cool water on a long surface swim, while staying thin enough that fin sizing does not have to change. Socks are also the practical answer inside a drysuit boot and inside a rock boot, where they add warmth without adding bulk at the ankle. That answers a snorkelling holiday in full-foot fins, a drysuit diver wanting a warmer foot, and a diver whose fins have started to rub.
