Description

A backup torch earns its place on the one dive where the primary fails, so the test is whether it is charged, switched off in the bag and bright enough to finish the dive on. The Mares Rover 10LR covers all three. Its battery is built in and charges by USB, with an indicator that shows the charge level, so there are no loose cells to forget at home. An electronic lock means it only switches on with a double click, which stops it draining in a kit bag on the drive to the site. A Cree LED behind a 12 degree spot beam puts out 950 lumens on high, enough to signal a buddy and read a gauge on a night dive, with a low setting for the safety stop and an SOS mode for signalling at the surface. At 172 grams in an aluminium body it rides in a BCD pocket or hangs from the wrist strap. It suits a diver wanting a compact primary for easy dives or a backup for night and wreck diving.
