H2O Shackle Stainless Steel Medium

Description

Load a snap gate sideways and it can open. Thread a pin through a shackle and it cannot, which is the whole reason both exist and the reason a torch hangs on one and a lift bag on the other. This is the connection meant to hold for the whole dive rather than to be clipped and unclipped: a medium stainless steel shackle closing on a screw pin. Stainless is what keeps it serviceable in salt water, because a plated shackle corrodes at the thread first and a seized pin means cutting the shackle off rather than undoing it. The jobs it is bought for are bending a lift bag onto a line, making off a shot line, or fixing a permanent point on a harness. Do the pin up finger tight rather than with a tool, since an overtightened pin is the one that will not come undone later, and back it off a turn for storage after rinsing so the threads do not seize. It suits a diver rigging a lift bag or a shot line.
